The team is comprised of scientists, expedition and research photographers, Inuit elders and guides, institutional directors, company representatives and support organizations. Each member shares the commitment and curiosity to discover the purpose and function of the erupted tusk of the narwhal.

The scientific investigative team draws internationally recognized experts in myriad fields. The analysis of hard tissue is led by Frederick Eichmiller, D.D.S. and Naomi Eidelman, Ph.D. at the Paffenbarger Research Center, National Institute of Standards and Technology. Soft tissue analysis and microfibril structure is coordinated by Peter Hauschka, Ph.D. at the Enders Research Facility, Children’s Hospital Boston and the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Laser surface scanning of hard tissue is directed by Steinbichler Optotechnik, with K.R. Srinivas, Tim Benjamin, and Eric Tostich at Optimal CAE, Inc. in the Engineering Metrology Group. The collection of traditional knowledge in Nunavut is coordinated through The Nunavut Research Institute."

Inuit elders from Arctic Bay, Pond Inlet, Clyde River and Broughton Island in Baffin Island, Nunavut, Canada, and communities in Western Greenland are currently being interviewed and recorded with digital video and audio recordings to document the traditional knowledge of the narwhal. The traditional collection in Nunavut is coordinated through the Nunavut Research Institute. This collection of observations will serve to balance and add to the scientific findings. Inuit guides have provided invaluable assistance to the project, especially the work and insights of David Agnatsiak from Pond Inlet and Moe Isseuip from Pangnitang

We have been assisted by countless others who have quietly given resources, assistance, equipment, support and money and who all are extended members of the team.
